Who is Greenrock?

Greenrock Research was founded in 1996 to bring institutional-caliber investment research and portfolio management exclusively to the RIA community. We work with firms nationwide with combined assets in the billions, serving as their outsourced CIO or as an enhancement to their investment team.

Our goal is to provide you with exceptional investment services, so you can spend more time working with your clients and growing your business.

Our History

The same two goals that were the founding goals of GRR remain the goals today: customized asset class research, delivered to the RIA clients at a price that is a bargain in the marketplace.

We started GRR because our observation was that pension funds had pension consulting firms but the RIA community had no access to high quality research. From the start we wanted to be a part of the brain trust of our RIA clients, understanding their investment promise to their clients and providing customized research to fulfill those promises.

We started with one RIA firm in 1996 and today we serve firms from coast to coast. We have grown by referrals from the custodial firms who witnessed the power of our research first hand as we helped RIA firms grow their assets and improve their client’s satisfaction. Today the four major custodians, Schwab, Fidelity, TD Ameritrade and Pershing recommend us to their RIA clients who want help with research.

What we do.

Greenrock Research is an independent, employee-owned investment research company. Because we have no products to sell, we can collaborate with you freely to offer specialized research and customized investment solutions designed to meet the unique objectives and best interests of your clients.

We have the flexibility to offer you the specific resources that are most suitable for your business—whatever you need and however you choose to work with us.

We provide a unique service by negotiating fees with investment managers on behalf of all our RIA clients. By providing this economy of scale, we can keep the expense ratios the RIA client absorbs to be a bargain, lower than any other method.

We are a boutique firm working with a significant RIA client base but not having any desire to be a supermarket firm. We develop deep relationships with our RIA clients, provide customization in a way that is unique to each firm. Delivering the right answer to investment problems is what drives us.

Dave McGahay

Investments

Dave joined the Greenrock team in 2000 bringing both an analytical and creative approach to developing investment research ideas and systems. When identifying investment opportunities, Dave focuses first on long-term growth drivers and their impact on the global economy, and then hones in on more specific attributes. Dave’s skeptical nature drives him to look for potential weaknesses in any investment opportunity, mindful of the best interest of our clients’ portfolios. Prior to joining Greenrock in 2000, Dave spent 11 years at Ellwood Associates, a national institutional and high-net-worth investment consulting firm, where he specialized in analyzing and organizing large amounts of data to make it clear and useful to pension and endowment clients. Dave earned a B.S. in economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

He is a family man who keeps himself busy on the weekends managing the sports schedules of three active boys and two very energetic dogs. He does, however, manage to escape to the golf course and is a passionate University of Wisconsin sports fan.

Robert Southard

Investments

Bob brought more than four decades of experience in the investment industry to Greenrock when he joined the firm in 2010. His primary focus throughout his career has been fixed income and alternative asset classes, and he oversees those areas of investment research at Greenrock. In 1985, Bob co-founded and co-managed Pacific Asset Management Company, an investment holding company that absorbed PIMCO as a subsidiary and separately created Parametric Portfolio Associates, Cadence Capital Management, NFJ Advisors, PM Realty Advisors and the PIMCO Funds. They also developed the industry’s second multi-period, strategic and tactical, asset-liability asset allocation model. Bob left this role to transition Driehaus Capital into an institutional momentum equity manager and founded Allegiance Capital to focus on an RIA client base. He and his partners built the company from a zero asset base to $5.5 billion and sold it in 2010. Bob holds a B.S. in industrial and labor relations from Cornell University.

When he’s not reading or writing about investments, Bob enjoys playing golf and softball.

Sue Mehmeti

Compliance

Sue joined the Greenrock team in 2008 bringing both experience and knowledge of the financial services industry. Her primary focus at that time was client services, operations and billing, and she still lends her insight and support to those areas today. Sue’s role has naturally evolved and currently she oversees compliance, communications, new client setup and accounting for the firm. Sue is a graduate of DePaul University, and earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in both Finance and Marketing, and also holds a Series 65 license. Prior to joining Greenrock, Sue worked with financial advisor teams at UBS and Citigroup. Her passion for investments started at a young age when she shadowed her mom, a successful financial advisor, at work.

In her free time, Sue finds happiness in spending time with her husband and two children, as well as her extended family and friends. She enjoys reading, travelling with her family and most of all, cheering on her kids at their various sporting events.
